Where we are
Saint Petersburg State University is made up of several dozen
faculties, research institutes and specialized schools, located
in more than 400 buildings in the center of Petersburg as well
as in the former suburban residence of the czar, Peterhoff. The
central office of our faculty is located not far from the office
of the rector of the university, Professor Ludmila Verbitskaya,
almost directly across from the Hermitage, which you will surely
visit.
The academic campus where you, with the help
of our teachers, will perfect your Russian, is located in the
Smolny complex, the well known centrally located historical and
administrative part of Saint Petersburg. This picturesque area on
the banks of the largest river in the city, the Neva, is not far
from the Chernishevsky metro station. It is a neighborhood of
trees and fresh air, and the locals can even be found fishing
on the Neva's banks here. Its hard to say what kind of luck they
have, but feel free to bring your gear.

The Smolny complex is made up of the Smolny
Cathedral, the former Smolny Institute (this is the present home
of the city government and the mayor's office), three university
faculties (Sociology, International Affairs and the Center for
Russian Language and Culture) as well as other Saint Petersburg
government administrative offices.
The Smolny Cathedral is a unique architectural
masterpiece. This strikingly beautiful light blue and white
building with its golden cupolas is located on Rastrelli Square.
You will be able to admire its grandeur between every class.
Entrance number 7 directly behind the cathedral
leads you into the Center of Russian Language and Culture (see the
map below). This is where you'll come on the first or second day
after you arrive in Petersburg, in a good mood after a good night's
sleep. You'll be met in room 114, take an initial test and start
studying.
